I remember when our first was born and right up into toddler years, being really confused how to dress bub at night and the correct temperature the room was meant to be at for a comfortable night’s sleep.
We got really frustrated and found the best, and easiest to use solution was the Tommee Tippee Groegg. It solved all of those dilemmas for us and was just one less thing to worry about. They’ve since updated the product and have released the innovative Groegg 2, which we will be reviewing here.

The Tommee Tippe Groegg is a digital thermometer designed to help you give your little one the best chance of a good night’s sleep. It is as simple as plugging it in & waiting a few seconds until the egg picks up the temperature of the room.

Once plugged in, The Tommee Tippee Groegg takes a few short seconds to display the correct temperature of your child’s room. Its an easy digital temperature display that is about a million times easier than playing the old guessing game.
From there it’s a quick decision on how to dress your little one for bed (ah, those pesky TOG ratings) based on the temperature of the room – which you can easily tell from the display or the different colours.
Gentle Night Light
The Groegg 2 comes with an updated and improved night light feature with a brighter design than the original gro egg. This feature we didn’t use so much with the babies, however once they hit toddlerhood and discovered a fear of the dark, it became super handy.
The soft silicone design (an update from the original groegg’s hard plastic egg) uses innovative colour changing to let you know at a glance if your little ones room is too cold (blue), too warm (red) or just right (orange). With the new product update from the Gro Company, you can also adjust the brightness levels to suit your child.

Tommee Tippee Groegg Cons
- Needs a power supply, can’t run on just batteries. This was only a problem for us during power outages – but you find after using the Groegg for a while you get a super accurate feel for room temperatures anyway (you’re a wizard Harry!)
- Not waterproof, like some of the other models which you can also use as a bath thermometer. The benefits of the Groegg far outweigh this small negative, but if it is important to you that your room thermometer is also a bath thermometer, try the brand’s other model – the Tommee Tippee Bath & Room Thermometer
Our Overall Opinion Of The Groegg
For our family, and many others I know, the Tommee Tippee Groegg & Groegg2 have been lifesavers and promote a safe sleeping environment. When your brain is all hazy from parenting life, the Groegg makes room temperature and pesky TOG ratings something that you don’t have to think about at all.
The different light levels are great for a nursery thermometer right through to a toddler bedroom. Our favourite feature has got to be the fact that the colours of the groegg coordinate to show if the temperature is right or not – with the quickest glance to know the temp of the room. Epic!

This is a really similar option to the above, however some parents are truly loyal to the Dreambaby brand – bub has been using their bottles since birth etc. Again, it’s a great product if you aren’t after the additional features of the Groegg.
